DIY Event Marketing

We’re continuing our video series “A Chat with Matt” where we talk to Matt Peterson, content training specialist at Infusionsoft, to share creative marketing ideas to help you and your business succeed.

Last week Matt Peterson and I talked about communicating automatically by using different systems and tactics. Well, since Infusioncon 2013 is just around the corner, we decided that this week we would chat about event marketing.

You don’t have to have a huge event to take advantages of the benefits. Peterson says it can be something as simple as a webinar, or a luncheon at a restaurant.
But, what are some of the steps you can take to make it happen?

  • Invite
  • Remind
  • Follow up

“If you’re going to do a lunch-and-learn event at a restaurant and you’re an attorney; you want to send out an invite. Automate the invitation process, make it easy for somebody to accept and to RSVP to that event and then when they do RSVP to that event,  send out a reminder saying ‘Don’t forget Thursday at noon we’re having a business lunch, here’s the location…we’re excited to see you’ keep people engaged,” says Peterson.

Then you can concentrate on making the event a success.

“The last step is just to follow up. If you have the follow up automated; if you create some emails ahead of time to say ‘Hey it was great to see you at the event’ or ‘Hey, we missed you at the event and here are some details on a future event we’re going to have’ then everything runs behind the scenes and you can concentrate on eating that great Mexican food and presenting an amazing seminar,” says Peterson.

So remember to be consistent as far as times go. Peterson recommends sending the invite approximately 2 weeks before, then a reminder should be sent about a week before the event. If people RSVP be sure to send an immediate email confirming their attendance and maybe even send a reminder the day of the event.

Feel free to get creative with the ways you send your messages and use calls to action.
